ATV's NEWSLETTER | March 2003

elcome to ATV Direct, Advanced Technology Ventures' newsletter designed to keep you updated on the latest ATV and portfolio company news, while providing insights on emerging market trends. ATV Direct is being distributed to our network of friends and colleagues, including portfolio company executives and limited partners.

The past few quarters have been challenging for investors and entrepreneurs alike. Continued volatility in the public markets, the threat of war, a decline in capital spending, and a dearth of IPOs and acquisitions have resulted in an increasingly cautious investment climate.

However, there are a number of bright spots on the horizon. Security, wireless communications, and data center management continue to hold tremendous promise, as well as companies with novel technologies that address unmet needs in both the medical device and life sciences sectors. Regardless of the market, proven business models, seasoned management teams, and back-to-basics fundamentals will be the cornerstones of success this year.
